ZeitstempelTime Stamps

The official digital time

A time stamp confirms that specific digital data was presented at a particular point in time. The time stamp is not determined by a local computer but is based on official German time and is generated by an accredited trust centre.

The German Digital Signature Act defines not only the qualified signature but also the qualified time stamp. This provides a legal guarantee that an electronic document has not been altered since it was affixed with the time stamp. Legally binding, qualified time stamps can only be generated by accredited providers such as D-TRUST GmbH (wholly owned subsidiary of the Bundesdruckerei Group). The validity of electronic documents bearing a qualified time stamp can be verified for a minimum of 30 years.

Solution:

secrypt’s range of digiSeal products offer access to and use of time stamp services from accredited trust centres. In addition, it is possible to integrate time stamps into existing business processes as well as third-party applications.

Application areas:

Time stamps are suitable for securing a wide variety of processes and data. They indicate, for example, at which point data existed, was processed or sent. For this reason, electronic time stamps have already been used for years in, for example, military, defence, research and development fields in order to provide reliable, long-term protection of data.
